Charline, The Writer and Dreamer...

WebsiteImagePurpleEternityFeather.jpg

I have been writing since I was very young. Creating stories and playing with words is my passion. It is my dream to inspire, entertain, enchant, and support children through my writing. I fell in love with poetry when I was in the 10th grade, thanks to my amazing English teacher, Ms. Fritz. This love of lyrical language is evident in many of my picture book manuscripts. I also believe in the power of laughter, so I bring humor into many of my stories. As a child, I was drawn to books full of magic and a bit of darkness, so I include these aspects in some of my writing as well. As a parent of a transgender youth, I also aim to feature LGBTQIA+ characters in some my work. I believe every child should be able to see themselves in the books they read.

Some of my books have themes of grief, since I lost my mother when I was a teenager and believe children need stories that give them hope when they are in the depths of despair. I also include SEL qualities in many of my books, but I strive to do so in a subtle way. My goal, first and foremost, is to write fun and beautiful stories that children will want to read again and again. I am working on my first middle grade novel as well and having a blast every step of the way! The book is magical realism with some horror, humor, and an important message about hate. (Did I mention I am a bit obsessed with alliteration?)

I am currently seeking agent representation. I hope to find someone who loves my stories and will fight for them. I want an editorial agent who is open, honest, has a sense of humor, and great relationships with a variety of amazing editors. I can't wait to find my partner in this publishing journey!

Charline, The Teacher and Mother

I have taught middle and high school English and creative writing for thirteen years and hold a bachelor’s degree in English. I am a teacher consultant for the National Writing Project, as well as the Youth Writing Director for Emerald Coast Writers. As the Youth Writing Director, I run an annual youth writing contest that covers students K-12 in eight area counties.

I live in Pensacola, FL (although I would much rather live in the mountains) with my three truly amazing kids (Jude, Theo, and Caroline), boyfriend (Matt), two dogs (Arthur and Pongo), two cats (Dusty and Oreo), and three rats (yes, pet rats - Popcorn, Cookie, and Cream). When I am not teaching or writing, you might find me enjoying a movie with my kids or cuddling up with my pets for a good read.
